Text from youtube "Learn more about covering and protecting your elections with this Google News Initiative training on digital safety and security led by Nicholas Whitaker.

Safety and security online is important for all users, but especially for journalists in the field conducting sensitive, difficult, and sometimes dangerous reporting. According to a recent study of more than 2,700 newsroom managers and journalists from 130 countries, at least half of those surveyed don’t use any tools or methods to protect their data and information online. Attend this workshop to learn how to protect yourself and your news organization from hacking, phishing, malware, other digital attacks and censorship — for the upcoming election season and beyond.

Please reach out to newslabsupport@google.com with questions."

To remain solvent they created REMP, an open-source subscriber-based funding platform. Support from the DNI Fund allowed the team to think bigger and develop these tools into an open source set of software. This allowed Dennik N to not only focus on reporting instead of revenue, it created a tool that other independent publishers can use and adapt.
