The country is rolling out a new ‘equity adjustor’. This uses 4 factors to decide patient priority: ethnicity, geographic location, level of deprivation and time spent on the waiting list. The numbers are crunched in an algorithm which weighs them differently according to the type of operation to give an overall score. #newzealand #māori #healthcare #inequality #surgery #waitinglist

3min 01sec clip - The #Circle Visible From #Space
found via boingboing
texy from youtube "Mount Taranaki, on the North Island of New Zealand, is a large-scale circle that's visible from space: a stratovolcano with six miles of forest around it. But that didn't happen naturally. Oh, and there's a good chance that, in the next fifty years or so, it might explode."

3min @wef clip - New Zealand is focusing on the well-being of its people, not just economic growth
text from youtube "In 2019 New Zealand focused public spending on improving citizens quality of life and devoting record funds to tackling poor mental health and domestic violence. As well as reducing child poverty and inequality.
According to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, just reporting on economic growth doesn’t show the full picture. Like many countries, New Zealand uses GDP to measure the health of its economy, but it’s a limited measure of social progress. While GDP measures many things of economic value, it excludes many more. GDP is still a key measure of New Zealand’s economic success, it’s just not the only one."
