6min 49sec @thersaorg clip - does human solidarity exist? moral #globalisation? Michael Ignatieff

Some headlines

Since 1945 we have become a post imperial world

- no group assumes the right to rule others - that they are "Born to rule"

- self determination is a given

- democratic revolution - sovereignty of people - as a guiding principle whether democratic or not

- human rights revolution -  on sexual orientation of racial background

This is an epic change

Michael isn't saying the world is more fair

But in moral expectations that is what people expect - and so gap between reality and expectation is if anything larger than it was

% who think xx is #morally unacceptable

Pew Research recently posted some info on global views on morality.  You can find the topline results here.

For the British results the methodology says one can say with 95% confidence that the error attributable to sampling and other random effects is plus or minus 3.3%.  The info was collected March 4th to 27th 2013 via telephone surveys of 1012 18+ adults.

By way of interest I have taken the info from the British survey to produce a picture - in descending order - of the % who thought the item described was morally unacceptable
