Private Eye No. 1547 (14th-27th May 2021 has a great short article about how during the pandemic in the UK the miltary intelligence analysts of the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence, (NGCI), applied their expertise in assembling, analysing and presenting complex data intelligibly for urgent decision making.
Presumably these techniques were first developed to present battlefield/theatre of operations data to generals, and so are well suited to doing the same to some of those in the various crisis control centres across the country.
As a footnote the Private Eye article goes on to report that publically Nicola Sturgeon's Scottish government rejected any such help from NGCI, but that via back channels they asked for the same help, and received it.
In terms of some NGCI background I've found ...
This webpage reports that NGCI was formed on 1 December 2019 to develop from their current levels of expertise to the next level as a modern, world leading, data-centric national centre for geospatial intelligence.
RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire is a Joint Force Command Station and the Pathfinder building is home to the Joint Force Intelligence Group and the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence, which provide intelligence support to the Armed Forces deployed on operations around the globe. A previous incarnation of the organisation was first established out of pre WW2 MI6 covert air reconnaissance operations.
This webpage sets out how they help with the planning for hurricane's by focusing on providing geospatial support to governmental and non-governmental agencies. This webpage sets out awards they have been nominated for.
