2min 24sec british #movietone clip - The Queen Opens #Gatwick this day in #1958

Today in 1958, Queen Elizabeth opened Gatwick, London's second airport. The Queen and Prince Philip came to perform the opening ceremony. She inspected a Guard of Honour of ten Airline captains and had a word with each of them. The Queen then made a speech, emphasising the great advantages of up-to-the-minute Gatwick, which has been described as the most advanced airport in the world. Meanwhile, near-by Crawley New Town, had been waiting to offer its welcome to the Queen and the Prince, who drove there after the opening of Gatwick. Her Majesty saw what splendid progress Crawley has made.
