I've just noticed that somebody called Jack has said the following on twttr

Honestly what on earth is this all about?

The ability to craft messages of any length on this platform seems to be very limited ....

and so it's utility will be minimal in terms of its ability to inform on breaking news

mark my words - nothing will come of it ... 

and the chances of me being wrong on this 

are as distant as Donald Trump being the Republicans choice for the Presidential race

the latest news is that somebody has just made available a site called you tube 


and the 1st posting on it was on 23rd April 2005 with a short clip of some guy standing before elephants in a zoo



i just don't get the point of the site 


and neither does my mate rick


i mean - do they expect us to roll about in joy at the opportunities this gives us

a friend of mine has told me that a site called digg opened for business yesterday


apparently it allows the community of people who use it to vote on news stories or links so the popular ones become apparent


why anyone would want to trust the opinions of a bunch of computer desk jockeys is something I'll never understand


and if it ever does get used i'm sure they'll tinker to much with the design it won't work

the facebook online

a guy called mark zuckerberg yesterday launched "thefacebook" which is just for students @ harvard college

its based on an earlier facemash application he created which used photos he hacked from harvard's computer network (he was lucky not to get in serious trouble for that)

as a piece of software it seems to allow people to update info about themselves and keep people in touch by befriending them

as an idea i guess this might spread to a few other posh ivy league colleges but beyond that the use seems limited

i mean - who wants to spend time checking out others peoples pictures?

wikipedia

yesterday some charlie launched an online encyclopedia project which is going to let anybody write entries on anything


its called wikipedia but is bound to be a complete flop


with no control over the content who in their right mind would trust anything the site says

weblog software launched

blogger launched yesterday 

its by pyra labs and is a piece of content management software designed to help simply create and maintain a weblog 

a weblog (often shortened to be called a "blog") is a type of website
 usually created and maintained by an individual


with regular entries and the ability to link to other sites, pictures and videos, and allow comments from

some people say that blogs will revolutionalise on line publishing and journalism as they allow individuals to publish their thoughts and comments on line without having to go via techie's who can construct web sites

others say that nobody is going to want to listen to other people twittering on like chirping birds about their inconsequential thoughts on whatever


they say the idea is as ridiculous as thinking college facebooks are something that people will want to access via the web.


i'm with the latter - mark my words - it will never catch on.

danny sullivan reported back in august about a new search engine by some students @ stanford university 


they've called it google  - and it uses weighted link popularity to rate internet pages


personally i can't see the attraction of a site whose name sounds like something a baby would gurgle


the creator of google don't seem in any hurry to go commercial and at least on that point their talking sense 


I can't see many going with a product with such a name 


i'm now told their 1st prototype page went up yesterday

HoTMaiL

i hear that a free web based email service called "HoTMaiL" - HTML geddit - was launched yesterday


why people would want to use the web to log onto their email is beyond me

you are not going to believe this but yesterday some french born iranian programmer launched an online auction website as part of his larger personal site


why anybody would want to go online to buy things from others they have never seen is the big question hanging over this sites future


i mean - what are people going to buy - broken laser pointers?

CERN release a web browser

i just heard that yesterday CERN released something called a web browser and editor into the public domain


i'm sure its very fascinating for these boffins to spend their time wondering around things on their computers


but it will be of very little practical use to the rest of us
